Heâs only the stuntman, but heâs stealing the show.
Fresh from his OscarÂŽ-nominated turn as Ken in âBarbie,â Ryan Gosling stars as a stuntman coming out of a brief hiatus and straight into a crazy conspiracy in âThe Fall Guy,â a new action thriller with the perfect dose of comedy, irreverence and romance, from director David Leitch. Not only does Leitchâs directorial credits boast of hits such as âBullet Train,â âDeadpool 2,â âAtomic Blondeâ and âFast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shawâ; he himself used to be a stunt performer.
In âThe Fall Guy,â Gosling plays Colt Seavers, who, like everyone in the stunt community, gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for peopleâs entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job.

At the SXSW premiere of âThe Fall Guyâ in March, Gosling gave a shout out to his own stunt performer for the film, Logan Holladay. âThere is a moment in the film where he buckles me in for a stunt that he is about to do. Then I get out of the car and he pats me on the back for a stunt that he just did,â said Gosling. âWhat I love about this movie is in any other film, you would never know that but in this one you do. Itâs an opportunity to finally acknowledge the stunt performers and the incredible contribution that they already make to movies.â

Blunt, who also just had a very successful awards season thanks to her OscarÂŽ-nominated performance in âOppenheimer,â plays Jody Moreno, director of the mega-budget movie that Colton is currently working on â and also his not so welcoming ex.
Blunt had a blast exploring the world of making action movies from the inside. âHere we show the juxtaposition of the spectacle and the reality of making movies, which is beautiful. Itâs absurd and wonderful at the same time,â said Blunt. âAnd there is another layer of tension that comes with action films, like setting up these stunts for hours to then drop someone off a building.â

âThe Fall Guyâ is director David Leitchâs most personal film yet, a love letter to action movies and the hard-working and under-appreciated crew of people who make them. In the hands of Leitch, the film offers an exciting inside look at what itâs like to be on a huge action movie set. âIt was a love letter to stunts. We knew we had to be authentic in that world,â said Leitch, who produced the film with his producing partner and wife Kelly McCormick, and Gosling, at the SXSW festival.
