The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Council on Wednesday passed a resolution supporting a proposed provincial ordinance for the creation of an electronic business registry for databank and other purposes.

MSMED Council co-chair Edward Du told the Philippine News Agency that the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) crafted the proposed ordinance and was presented during the meeting which Governor Pryde Henry Teves convened.

Teves sits as chairperson of the MSMED Council.

Du, former NOCCI president and former Central Visayas regional governor of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the proposed provincial ordinance contains an 11-point agenda that would basically cater to MSMEs.

“Hopefully, Governor Teves will endorse the proposed ordinance and convene his department heads and perhaps the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, specifically the vice governor, so that the issues and concerns that need legislative action or ordinance will be discussed,” Du said in mixed English and Cebuano.

One of the highlights of the proposed ordinance is the creation of the Negros Oriental electronic business registry databank, he said.

This will be a repository of all business information covering all MSMEs in the province, and will also provide training support services, promote trade and investments through electronic networking, and facilitate business partnerships among local MSMEs and their suppliers and business partners, he added.

Du said having an electronic business registry will help the MSMEs in the province for easy and convenient access to market and trade, among others.

Another highlight is the creation of the MSMED Coordinating Board, to be composed of representatives from various government agencies, to coordinate the activities of the MSMEs.

In the same meeting, Department of Trade and Industry provincial director Nimfa Virtucio also presented the national MSMED plan framework and the 2020 accomplishment of the agency.

The DTI here is hoping that the governor will come up with a synchronized plan for agencies involved in aiding MSMEs through various programs and projects. (PNA)
