An official of the Federation of Philippine Industry (FPI) on Wednesday vowed membersâ strict compliance with the Philippine National Standards, and the groupâs continued cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
In a statement, FPI Chairperson Elizabeth Lee said adherence to the Philippine National Standards âis non-negotiable.â
âOnly by strictly following these standards, especially in cement and steel, can we ensure safe, durable, and resilient public infrastructure for our people,â she said.
The statement was issued as the government digs deeper into anomalous public works projects that not only undermine public safety but mine government coffers of billions worth of budget.
Lee said they are in close coordination with DTIâs Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) and reaffirmed the groupâs âcommitment to collaborate with all government agencies in upholding these standards.â
âTogether, we must guarantee that our public infrastructure projects are built on quality, integrity, and accountability, laying the foundation for sustainable nation-building and long-term growth,â she said.
Lee said the group also âstrongly urges the Department of Public Works and Highways to enforce the strict implementation and monitoringâ of these standards, especially for building materials.
âStrict compliance with the PNS is essential to ensure the safety, durability, and resilience of the countryâs public infrastructure. The use of substandard materials, whether in cement, steel, or other critical construction inputs, compromises public safety, wastes resources, and undermines confidence in national development efforts,â she added.
