The town of Socorro in Bucas Grande Island, Surigao del Norte, received additional aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) on Tuesday.

In a statement, the DSWD-13 said it has sent 6,608 family food packs to Socorro, one of the severely affected towns in the province by Typhoon Odette in December last year.

“The food packs are the fourth round of augmentation sent by the DSWD-13 in the town as requested by the local government unit,” it said.

The food packs will benefit more than 5,000 families from the different barangays in Socorro.

“The department ensures that it continually engages with the provincial and the LGUs in the region with requests for augmentation support,” the DSWD-13 said.

Depending on requests, the additional support may include technical assistance and the provision of food and non-food items.

Meanwhile, the DSWD-13 said it launched field visitations for evaluation and monitoring in the different areas of the region from Sept. 5 to 10.

“The activity aims to ensure the smooth implementation of the Risk Resiliency Program – Cash for Work project of the agency in the Caraga Region,” it said.

The evaluation and monitoring activities are led by a team from the Disaster Response Management Bureau-DSWD Central Office.

The team will provide technical assistance to the DSWD-13, based on the needs and issues that will arise during the visits and evaluations. (PNA)
